WhatsApp GIF vs. Animated Sticker: What’s the Difference?

A GIF is an animated image file or a result selected from WhatsApp’s GIF search. A WhatsApp sticker is a separate chat item shown in the sticker tray. Sticker packs have their own formatting and size requirements, so a GIF file is not automatically a WhatsApp sticker.

Paste a public Instagram post or Reel URL into InstantGif, fetch its available media, and choose Download Media. This saves the media file offered by the post. The current tool has no GIF-to-sticker converter, sticker editor, or WhatsApp sticker-pack export, so it cannot create an animated WhatsApp sticker for you.

Open a chat, tap the GIF control, search, preview, then send. To share a downloaded file, use your phone’s photo or document attachment flow and check the preview; the result depends on the saved media format and WhatsApp’s handling of it.

On supported current Android and iOS versions, WhatsApp’s own sticker tools can create a sticker from a photo: open the sticker tray, choose Create, select a photo, adjust it with the offered options, and send it. This is a photo-based sticker workflow; it is not an animated-GIF conversion workflow. Availability and labels can vary by app version.

WhatsApp publishes separate instructions for custom stickers and sticker packs and sending GIFs. Follow those requirements if you use a separate sticker-pack tool; InstantGif does not build or export those packs.
